Armenia Travel Guide
"Armenia was one of the first countries to adopt Christianity as its official state religion in 301 AD and many of the country's surviving ancient monuments are Christian churches and monasteries. The tiny landlocked country is part of the Southern Caucasus region sandwiched between Europe and Asia and between the Black and Caspian Seas. Present-day Armenia occupies but a fraction of the ancient Armenia, and was once a republic of the Soviet Union. Its capital, Yerevan, is one of the world's oldest cities, founded years before the founding of ancient Rome."
Festivals Place to Visit Fast Facts
"Echmiadzin, the holiest town and spiritual capital of Armenia, is located in the Aramvir province, about 20 kilometres from Yerevan. The city lies in the shadow of Mt. Ararat, which is a dormant volcano. The valley has the most fertile soil in Western Asia and its early inhabitants were the pioneers in the cultivation of wheat, grapes and apricot. Echmiadzin is characterized by dry sub-tropical climate with cool summers and snowy winters. Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit."

"Yerevan is Armenias capital . Old town enriched by the many museums and parks, it is the very place where a visit through Armenia can be started from. Echmiadzin, the Armenian Church, the Hellenistic temple of Garni and the Monastery of Geghard are not too far away and can be enjoyed in one day time.

Apart from this, Garni (the only pre-christian temple in Armenia, Hellenistic) and further to Geghard (a pearl of Armenian medeival architecture, a monastery carved in a rock mountain). Some 40km NE from Yerevan. Beautiful canyon near Garni and the caves close to Geghard are another nice additions to the trip. Zvartnots temple (ruins, but still rather interesting) and further to Etchmiadzin (a Vatican for Armenians). Some 30km W from Yerevan. Apart from the Cathedral, also worth seeing are Gayane, Hrimsime and Shogakat churches."
