| Norway Travel Guide |
"Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway, is a country and constitutional monarchy in Northern Europe that occupies the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. It is bordered by Sweden, Finland, and Russia. The distance between the northern and southern parts of Norway is considerable compared to east-west distances. The country's extensive coastline along the North Atlantic Ocean is home to its famous fjords.
The Kingdom of Norway also includes the Arctic island territories of Svalbard and Jan Mayen. Norwegian sovereignty over Svalbard is based upon the Svalbard Treaty, but that treaty does not apply to Jan Mayen. Bouvet Island in the South Atlantic Ocean and Peter I Island and Queen Maud Land in Antarctica are external dependencies, but those three entities do not form part of the kingdom." |

The Bergen Art Festival in Norway consists of several parts: the music festival with great concerts, a literature festival for authors and publishers, and FLAZZ, a jazz-themed festival with star performers. Then, there is also BIFF (short for Bergen International Film Festival) in which visitors can watch films from all over the world."
"The Saint Olav Drama" and "The Saint Olav Festival" at Stiklestad.
"The Saint Olav Drama is the largest open air play in the Nordic countries.
The year of 2004 marks the play`s 50 th anniversary. The drama unfolds in the last 24 hours before the battle itself (1030), and reveals the transition between paganism and Christianity. Each summer at the end of July about 20 000 spectators visit the magnificent amphitheatre. The Saint Olav Drama is theatre, drama, music, dance and storytelling at the same time.
"The Saint Olav Festival" is a ten days long festival based on the St. Olav Play ""Spelet om Heilag Olav"". The four performances every year form the basis, spiced with a medival marked, art exhibition, concerts, theatre and much more.
The medival marked during the St. Olav Festvial is an experience for all generations. It includes theatre, musical games, archery and activities for children. You can see dyeing of textiles with plant colours, the ""nlebinding"" stiching technique from Viking times, sewing of shoes and skin rugs, forging metal and woodcarving. In 2003, a total of 50 000 people visited The Saint Olav Festival at Stiklestad."

Bergen "Bergen gets a lot of play because it is a good place to start a tour of Norway's Fjord Country. Bergen's inner harbor and ""Old Town"" are pleasant: the town has a long and interesting history, which is well represented in local museums.
From Bergen, you can travel by bus and train through part of Fjord Country and doing so is worth the effort, as the scenery is some of the most beautiful in the world (the fjords are best seen from the water). You can, also, catch the Hurtigruten, the famous Norwegian coastal steamers, for an interesting ride as far north as most travelers will ever want to go.
Finally, you might consider a more formal cruise of the fjords since a cruise is a wonderful and relaxing way to see Fjord Country"
Oslo
Although Oslo is Norway's capital city, as well as it most populous one, it has less attraction for the tourist than Bergen. Be sure to see the Edvard Munch Museum and the Viking Ship Museum (Vikinskiphuset). Stavanger Stavanger is a modern day, oil town that has an interesting "old town". Stavanger is worth a spot on your itinerary only if you are on a ferry that is making a stop there. |

Climate Norway is the northernmost country in the world to have open waters. This is due to the trade winds forced across the Atlantic Ocean by the American continent and the warm currents flowing north from the Equator towards the Norwegian Sea, where the angle of the Norwegian coastline and an open path to the Arctic Ocean help to guide the temperate air and waters to a more northerly latitude. Norways climate fluctuates greatly from year to year, especially in its most northern parts, which are located at the edge of the global temperate zone. The lowest minimum temperature recorded is -51C in Krjohka-Karasjok in northern Norway. The average annual temperature swings from some 8C along the western coast to below freezing in the mountains. The coldest months of the year are January and February and the warmest time in the inland areas is mid-July, while the coastal and mountains regions may reach their peaks somewhat later. |
